The Dawson County Kiwanis Club is a nationally registered club associated with Georgia's Division-10 District.
Club Bio and History: The Dawson County Kiwanis Club was chartered on December 3, 1998.
Congressman Nathan Deal presented the newly chartered club with a United States Flag which had flown over the White House at their initial meeting held at the Fisherman’s Net Restaurant in Dawsonville, Georgia.
Our sponsor, David Blankman, transferred from the Cumming Kiwanis Club to serve as the interim President. Roy Coleman was named as President-Elect while Judy Walls became the first treasurer of the club. With the exception of one term in which Charlie Langford served as treasurer, Judy Walls with her banking expertise has faithfully served as the treasurer of our club for the balance of almost ten years.
Charter members were: Roy Coleman, Billy Carlisle, Claudia Gibson, Tom Pafford, Chryl Waldrip, Judy Walls and Linda Williams. Chryl Waldrip signed as the first official member of our club.
During their first year of existence, the Dawson County Kiwanis Club sponsored the Lumpkin County Kiwanis Club. According to then District 10 Lieutenant Governor Kathy Edwards, that was an unprecedented accomplishment.
As one of the first orders of business, the club voted to purchase a snow cone machine for use in their first fundraiser - selling snow cones at the Classic Car Shows in Dawsonville. That snow cone machine continues to be used in present day fundraisers.
Those serving as President of the Dawson County Kiwanis Club are:
The Dawson County Kiwanis Club sponsors the Dawson County Key Club and Builders Clubs.
Our club is honored to have David Mancuso serve as our first Lieutenant Governor for the administrative year 2007 – 2008. He is a past president and brought us the annual 5K/10K Fun Run from his previous club. The Fun Run continues to be our most successful fundraiser to this date.
Ten years after the Dawson County Kiwanis Club was chartered, it continues to grow and serve the children of our community. Members look forward to many more years of service.
